What Is Unconditional Love?

The dictionary states it is affection felt for someone that is not dependent on certain qualities or actions. But unconditional love is without conditions, is selfless, without limitations, without expectations and caring for our fellow man/woman in need. When Jesus walked on the Earth he preached unconditional love and that we should love each other as we would want to be loved! He sacrificed his life so we may live! Try to understand the meaning of John 3:16,  “For God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believed in him should not perish but have eternal life” God loved us unconditional, so much, that he was willing to give his son for us all.

Do you find it hard to love freely and with care? It is not hard to be kind and caring towards our family and friends but how about a stranger! Ask yourself some questions and you will find out! Have you held the door for someone? Or picked up something someone dropped? Buying a meal for someone in need? Maybe assist someone that needs assistance? How about a smile to someone that is in need of a smile or encouragement? Love holds no boundaries of care. 1 John 3:16-18, “By this we know what love is: Jesus laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth.”  How much more then this do you need to understand that we are all one. Coming together to assist each other will prove without a shadow of a doubt that we need each other to stand tall and strong. 1 Peter 4:8, “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

When we think of unconditional love one wants to think in terms of romance/relationships but really it pertains to loving all persons as Jesus did when he was alive.  You can say mothers love their children unconditionally without boundaries or limitations. For most parents would love their child no matter what the health of a child or circumstance, they would nurture and love each of their children. The look of a child with their parents is another way of looking at unconditional love. Another way of describing unconditional love would be your family dog. They will follow you to the ends of the Earth and protect you every step of the way.  1 Corinthians 13:4-7 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

We are all united as one in this universe and need to act as we are one! Our consciousness is connected with the universe and to each individual on earth. 1 John 4-11, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

Luke 6: 27-28, “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who spitefully use you. Jesus prayed to God while on the cross “Father forgive them they know not what they do!” So shall we do, with all the craziness that is being brought upon this world to distract, stay focused on those words and forgive all those that know not what they have done. Remember there is nothing greater than love. Matthew 5:44-45, “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”

In our daily life we have a profound impact on others with giving emotional support including having empathy and patience for others, being a positive influence, and strengthen our relationships with family, friends, and etc. It has the power to transform our collective well-being.
